Theotrust has helped many children from various countries with the chance to study in the UK for up to one year and take part in summer holidays activities. This led to better opportunities having fluency in English.
As a trust we maintain contact as well as providing further support where there is need.
In Ukraine
We have explained our emerging role in Russia from 1998 until the radical change that took place in 2014 where we switched support to Ukraine. When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 we became immersed in the Poltava region of Ukraine, helping to organise a refugee exodus to Poland and on to the UK. Now after more than 15 months of brutal war against a defenceless, civilian population we face a threat to democracy. Russia’s ‘special project’ has been a remorseless attack aimed at grinding down citizens’ morale to which Ukrainians have shown admirable resilience.
Our chairman was very much involved during February to April 2022 in arranging safe passage for Ukrainians wishing to avail themselves of the UK Homes for Ukraine scheme, which the government had just introduced. He organised in Poland transit accommodation as a staging post until complex application forms were accepted, making it possible to continue to the Uk. Most of our sponsored refugees settled in Derbyshire. Many volunteers helped find housing and furniture for the incoming families and a dedicated team liaised with social services over universal credit, enrolment with schooling, GPs and dentists. Opportunities for work and learning of English followed. The real challenge for most was adjusting to a new culture, a new language and leaving behind their homeland and loved ones in a perilous state from bombardment or conscription. And now several sponsors have completed the obligatory six-month period and retired from the scheme, leaving the refugee families to seek accommodation and all the other challenges that go with it. As a trust, we do our best to assist them and this aspect of our work is likely to increase given the stalemate, the war has entered.
In India
Over the past 5 years we have worked with Project Mala to provide a one year UK education for suitable candidates.
Continued Support
Theotrust has monitored the progress of those children who have returned after their year in the UK and helped those in need of further support. Theotrust has formed a partnership with Doon International School in Chandigarh, Punjab. This has led to one of our students gaining a scholarship at this school. We are looking to expand our relationship with them and hope to provide more candidates.
Theotrust is also funding one year study courses for our students to attend university; an opportunity that otherwise they could never have.
Project Mala , created by businessman Robin Garland has six schools providing education for 1400 children.
